MAN AND HIS MAN-MADE FUTURE

CENTRAL SAINT MARTINS GRADUATE COLLECTION | 2017

Under commodity culture's growing shadow lies waste. It's a secret beyond the consideration of the fashion industry and indeed its remit. Questioning the state of the earth we inhabit, collection one 'Man and His Man-Made Future', considers the future of humanity challenging the curation of our world, evolution, and anthropology.

Resourcefulness is an imperative trait for the future of our race. By using waste as a viable resource for design and in combination with invention, this collection presents a blueprint for sustainable design and a significant model for our future, following the collapse of civilisation as we know it.

MATERIALS

Fly-tipped waste forms the core of this collection.

After accumulating discarded materials from the fashion industry that would have otherwise been incinerated, trash collected from landfill and the streets were combined to explore a process of craftsmanship with unconventional materials.

Having an awareness of humanity's necessity for self-sufficiency, each piece was created to hold a greater message than the sum of its parts.

COMMUNITY

'Water Filter Shoes' and 'The Dipper' both made to filter tap water were made in collaboration with ceramicist and ecologist, Brook Sigal.
