FAQ

ARE ALL PIECES UPCYCLED?

Not everything is upcycled however, our responsible ethos is embodied in all our pieces – made from post-consumer and discarded materials that would otherwise end up as trash, or low impact fabrics that can be recycled without being environmentally damaging. Please see more about our responsibility here or alternatively, please e mail us with any questions about our design and manufacturing processes at studio@matthew-needham.com.

WHAT IS THE MATTHEW NEEDHAM COMMUNITY?

Matthew Needham Studio brings together an international audience of like-minded individuals, who share ideas on how to make fashion more sustainable through materiality, technology and design. We also aim to educate about environmental issues through our garments, process, and immersive and enriching community-based experiences. For responsible customers, friends, and companies looking to have a greater awareness of their environmental footprint.

WHO ARE YOU? WHAT DO YOU DO?

I [Matthew Needham] am a designer and upcylist who creates conceptual upcycled clothing from post-consumer and low impact materials. I began working with fly tipped waste during my BA graduate collection in 2017, entitled ‘Man and his Man-Made Future’ at Central Saint Martins and have continued to utilise this way of working as a method of storytelling and communication of the serious environmental strain that the world is facing today.

Established in 2021, MATTHEW NEEDHAM studio represents the zeitgeist of today and champions the use of unorthodox upcycling processes, whilst questioning the societal relationship we have with our clothing. Subverting desire and openly discussing the emotional value and attachment of our garments is what I believe sets our company apart from the majority.

We believe in only producing garments and products today that have history, integrity, and authenticity. All of which I [Matthew Needham] believe to be traits embodied within the work I produce.
